The only thing stranger than a Ministry writing a blog this Sunday about protecting children in schools, is praying for the kids in school, when prayer or God is not always allowed in schools. Take the Bibles out of schools, remove creation and or intelligent design teaching from schools, ban praying in schools and put up gun free zone signs in schools...have no armed person in the schools...what could possibly go wrong with children as sitting ducks? Aside from everything, schools become high profile celebrity status attack magnets, open invitations to have violence for points and fame. Churches are also high profile attack targets, but in churches God is still allowed. At least that is what we tell ourselves, and we do hope it is true that we still have God in our churches.
We as a ministry are not political, yet who in America right now has not noticed all the issues going on about school safety and about should there be armed security putting at least some skilled parties armed in a school of some form to protect our nations children. Does this seem like weird issue to have for a Sunday religious blog? Maybe not, let's see what the Bible says.
We noticed that the Bible does seem to have a few things to say, and really, a lot to say about protection of children.Matthew 18:10 - "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven."
Mark 9:42 - "And whosoever shall offend one of [these] little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea."
Isaiah 49:25 - "But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children."
We are not here to talk about guns, the dangers of "advertised" targets of "gun free zones" as gun magnets from outside armed attackers getting at our nations children as easy prey. Or how having trained, experienced persons in handling already inside the school may be the best option where their (smart gun with electronic sensor that will not work in anyone's hands except the trained persons own hands, as example) doesn't come out of a concealed holster unless an attacker is already inside with a gun.
Do not consume about the distractions of the "gun debate" that is passions that will never be resolved in an instant no matter what side of the issue one is on. Rather, we have found the scriptures speak very strongly about how God feels we should be taking our nations children's safety with true focus and protection. If our nation puts guards and guns in banks...the entire sum of which dollars and gold (if there even was any) is not worth the lives of our nations children...are we then missing the point in our priorities? What we are seeing in scriptures is God himself feels as passionately and strongly as we all do about protecting children. Even how it seems immoral to not protect them. While most people detest the politicizing in the media and how divisive it seems, make no mistake how our own heavenly father feels about it for us as his children, to in turn be protecting our children.
When you pray this week, know God hears the cries and prayers of the victims and their families, that these events will continue to occur, until we all as his people understand our God feels as strongly as we all do, and take up our responsibility to protect our nations children. Pray our nation leaders have wisdom and guidance, and that it draws upon the ancient wisdoms.
